NCSoft Reveals Aion 2: A Massive New MMORPG Set 200 Years After the Original

As promised, NCSoft hosted the special livestream “Aion2 Night” on May 29, revealing the first official details of its upcoming MMORPG: Aion 2. During the event, the developers confirmed that this will be a “complete” version of the original Aion, featuring systems that were previously impossible due to technical limitations.

Highlights include free flight across all map regions, the ability to create mounts and pets using the souls of defeated monsters, and a world that is 36 times larger than the first game, including iconic zones. The storyline takes place 200 years after the events of the original game, showing the struggle for survival of the Elyos, Asmodians, and Balaur after the collapse of the Tower of Aion.

The devs also announced major changes in race design, removing exaggerated physical differences like claws on Asmodians to avoid imbalance between players.

In PvE, the game will feature around 200 dungeons, with solo, 4-player, and 8-player modes, as well as field events. The matchmaking system will be cross-server and will include an easy mode for beginners with rewards.

Combat will be fully manual, with no auto-battle, featuring realistic hit detection and non-target mechanics, both on PC and mobile. A Focus Group Test has also been confirmed before the official release, with registrations open until June 12 on the official website. Test sessions will be held on June 28 and 29.
